Why a Military Discount?

13 Mar 2009

Why do we give a military discount?

I'll tell you why, kitty kats!  We love the men and women of the military.   My husband and I are both still serving, and I feel it's important to give a little back to the folks in uniform.  You hear about fast food chains giving a discount, why not a quilt shop? Here's a photo of my husband and I with Bryce Fisher from the Seattle Seahawks.  Isn't he hot?!   My husband, I mean...

My hair looked good that day.  Bryce was in the Washington Air National Guard and this picture was taken right after they were robbed of their Superbowl.

The 10% discount is open to all serving members of the military, retirees and their dependents.  All I ask in return is you drop me a line when you order and let me know your affiliation with the military, maybe share some of your history with us.  It's fun to see the different types of duty where my customers served.  It also gives us a shared bond between quilters and military members.

Use discount code 141ARW when checking out.

If you have any questions, just give me a shout!  Or a Hoorah...

I Like Big Butts and I Cannot Lie

11 Mar 2009

I have to take my physical fitness test in April and I've put on 20 pounds this year.  I have got to get some exercise.  Last year, I passed my fitness test, no problem.  The military has this calculation where they input your weight and measurements into this formula and it gives you your fitness age.  I scored a fitness age of a 36 year old woman.  Not to shabby, considering I'll be 44 this year.  Except for the part about my body age.  According to the Air Force, I have the body of a 79 year old woman.  My husband is a lucky man.

On the bright side, my corneas are VERY thin!  According to my optometrist, they're too thin for lasik eye surgery.  Wouldn't you know it...the only thing that's too thin on my body are my corneas.

What does this post have to do with quilting?  Well duh...my butt's getting big because I sit at my sewing machine too much AND my eyes are so bad because I'm constantly abusing them with all my quilting.

What Ev...

What is Prairie Chic?

09 Mar 2009

What is "Prairie Chic?"  Although it's not in the dictionary or Wikipedia, it's a term I like to refer to as My Quilting Style!  I love, love, love shabby chic florals AND traditional vintage prairie style fabrics.  Bring them together and you have Prairie Chic!  Besides, I live on a street called Prairie Crest and the view from my back window overlooks a prairie.

blog3

When I first opened the shop, the original name was Prairie Crest Fabrics.  The funny thing is that people have a really hard time spelling the word PRAIRIE.  So I changed the name to West Plains Quilt Co.  I also live on the west plains of Eastern Washington state.  So I figured I had all my bases covered.

Prairie Chic fabrics you'll find in my store include anything from delicious florals to homespun folk art-type fabrics.  You probably won't find batiks in my shop -- unless they are truly fabulous and somehow go with our theme.

If there's something you think goes with our Prairie Chic style and you'd like to see it on the website, just drop me a line.

Thanks for stopping by!

Beach House Hang Tag

Relaxed and sophisticated in dusty earthen colors, Beach House is an afternoon coastal retreat. The salty sent of the ocean lingers in the air carried by a gentle off shore breeze. The steady rhythm of crashing waves are the perfect sound track to an evening of creative handwork and reminiscing with close friends.

$9.00 yard

It's been a few weeks since my last newsletter and I have lots to share.  I was sort of feeling down about the economy and wondering if this business was going to take off and then the UPS man came by with a little pick-me-up!  No, he didn't have his brown shorts on, it was too cold.  He brought me 9 bolts of Moda Beach House by Blackbird Designs!  It is beautiful and it just made me happy!  Just touching the rich cotton is better than chocolate!  You'll know exactly what I mean when you see it.

And that's not all.  Last week my UPS man brought me more Moda deliciousness from the Bake Shop.  I have Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes and fat quarters of Patisserie by Fig Tree Quilts and Legacy - Collections for a Cause by Howard Marcus.
